The Monticello-Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 69th Annual Watermelon Festival. The three-weekend festival is sure to keep you entertained during the month of June. “Our Town,” is the theme for the Florida festival’s 69th occasion.
Even if you’ve attended this festival in the past, there are some events you’ll not want to miss. Returning this year are the nationally recognized Ultimate Air Dogs. Featured on national news, Ultimate Air Dogs travel the country with their distance jumping competition. Ultimate Air Dogs encourages you to bring your four-legged swimmer to join in the fun!
In addition to competitions for our canine friends, you’ll find races for your inner-competitor at this year’s Watermelon Festival. The Kiwanis Club of Monticello holds a 5k race in the third and final weekend of the festival. For those of you looking for a bit of nontraditional competitive fun, the Great American Bed Race is definitely a winner! Teams of three build, decorate, and then push their homemade bed down the streets of Monticello. I can’t imagine anything more entertaining at a Florida festival!
Is a Florida festival complete without a parade, pageant, and car show? The Annual Watermelon Festival will not disappoint. The pageants will be held June 1 during the first weekend of the festival. There are competitions for Youth, Teen Miss, and Miss Watermelon Queen. The antique car show and the Watermelon Parade both take place during the festival’s last day. The Chamber of Commerce packed the agenda full of excitement and fun during all three weekends. Check the agenda for details.
